T-Mobile USA announced that a new Microsoft Exchange client named Sidekick Sync will become available today to Sidekick LX 2009 customers. The application was developed by Remoba and supports not only Exchange push email, but full over the air synchronization of calendar appointments and contacts as well. Sidekick Sync even supports the typical Exchange peak/non-peak scheduling system.
The application is expected to appear in the Application Catalog found on the Sidekick LX 2009 this afternoon. Sidekick Sync costs US$4.99 per month and also requires that users have a Sidekick data plan.
When the news was announced, it triggered net-friends to do heated discussions. Here are some readers comments:
Jim: Doesn’t Microsoft own Danger? Why charge $4.99 a month for access to their own software?
Zephxiii: Blackberry doesn’t even have native exchange support lol, only BES which is additional software that has to be bolted onto an exchange server (lame) lol.
MrLegend: Well AT&T charges $15.00 for Enterprise support… so that’s not asking too much.
Bondtastic: I find the attitude that some people have of those that use the sidekick are worse than those of the people that actually own a sidekick. Most sidekick users I know LOVE their phone and think the Iphone, blackberries, and Android devices are ALSO cool. It’s a phone! It will not solve world hunger, cure cancer, or any of these other lofty ideals that give you the right to be a complete jackass to those that are happy with what they have. I guess some bloggers don’t really get that.
Jughead: Since when did push Exchange work right out of the box with Blackberry for free? From my knowledge you have to drop a few grand to bloat your Exchange server with Blackberry BES to get non-OWA Exchange support.
