HTC T-Mobile G2 Phone, the first device supporting HSPA plus high-speed data transmission via 3G network, was released. T-Mobile G2 features Android 2.2 OS, 800MHz Qualcomm processor, a 3.7-inch WVGA capacitive multi-touch screen display, a humanized QWERTY keyboard with clever Z-hinge mechanism, and 5MP camera. Although HTC G2 phone isn’t No. 1 in terms of specifications, it is a decent phone with powerful functions.
1. HTC T-Mobile G2 Phone—Appearance
T-Mobile G2 Phone is concise and elegant in silver and grey color, coupling hardness with softness, different from showy phones from Japanese and Korean. HTC T-Mobile G2 measures 60.4×119×14.16mm and weights 180g.

T-Mobile G2 phone equips with a longer receiver than that of Motorola Milestone, but the cool receiver will keep much more dust than Milestone.
The specification of HTC G2 phone follows mainstream, such as a 3.7-inch Capacitive multi-touch screen display (WVGA, 480x 800), touch keys (Home, Menu, Back, Research) and advanced optical touchpad underneath the screen.

(a) The users have to control G2 via keyboard and touchscreen at the same time, instead of through keyboard only. Because the absence of direction keys in keyboard, users have to operate the device via touchscreen.
(3) T-Mobile G2 Phone—Clever Z-hinge Mechanism
The screen of HTC G2 phone slides out from the chassis via a clever Z-hinge mechanism.
- Advantage of Z-hinge:
(a) The absence of slide ways makes HTC G2 phone lighter and thinner.
(b) It is easier for user to clean the dust between screen and keyboard
(c) Z-hinge mechnism will reduce the friction of flex cables and prolong the life-span of flex cables.
- Disadvantage of Z-hinge:
(a) The exposed flex cables are easy to be destroyed by accident.
(b) Z-hinge design is fragile. 4 fulcrums of Z-hinge instead of solid slide ways support the weight of screen. The users have to unfold and fold it carefully.
(2) T-Mobile G2 Phone—Rear
The draw processing panel in the rear of G2 phone highlights its quality. The prominent logos (“G2”, “HTC” and Google) indicate the identity of G2 phone.
The loudspeaker of HTC G2 is much shorter than Milestone.

You will find a long volume key and a Micro USB connector on the left of G2, and a shutter key and a button for opening battery cover on the right.

(3) Performance in Linpack for Android
(a) The result of updated Nexus One (Android 2.2 version) is 38-40 MFLOPS in test, while the T-Mobile G2 is about 31-32 MFLOPS. Hence, the performance of G2 is not bad.
(b) CPU: Although T-Mobile G2 is not as good as Nexus One (Android 2.2) in Quadrant Advanced test, but is much better than Droid X and Samsung Galaxy S.
(c) I/O and 3D: T-Mobile G2 is much better than Nexus One (Android 2.2)
